Buyer Warning – Fake Lithium Batteries Found In Australia!

Buying cheap imported products online is risky. Even platforms like eBay don’t guarantee your protection or that you’re even getting a good deal.

Shop around, ask questions, and only buy from reputable and experienced suppliers.

Part 1

Where is All Started – THE FAKE

When a customer approached us to fit two cheap lithium batteries to his camper, we immediately knew they were not genuine lithium batteries and that he had been ripped off.

Here were the initial fake-battery giveaways.

  1. They were too heavy for lithium batteries at over 22kg each
  2. There were no further markings on the battery casing i.e. capacity, discharge or charging capacity
  3. We could hear something rattling around inside
  4. They load capacity didn’t match the size of the battery
  5. They were less than half the price of even the lowest capacity lithium battery we stock

“Out of interest, and with the permission of our customer, we proceeded to investigate by cutting into the battery box exposing what was actually inside”.

Part 2

CUTTING IT OPEN

Yes, we actually cut into this so-called lithium battery.

What Do You Think Is In It?

Well It Sure Ain’t What You’d Expect!

Part 3

WHAT’S IN THE BATTERY?

Surprise! It’s GLASS!

Yes! Actual glass.

Sheets of glass, packed in to fill the gaps at each end of the battery box.

Part 4

This Is No Accidental Manufacturing Glitch!

As we cut open the battery box, we expose one end and remove several perfectly cut-to-size sheets of glass slotted into the space at the end at the base.

This Was VERY Intentional

Part 5

The Counterfeit Lithium Battery Scandal Continues…

WE ELSE WE FOUND!

  • Several kilograms of glass, cut to pack out the space,
  • A poorly constructed AGM battery (approx. 50 amp hour), plus
  • A rubber band and empty space.

Shockingly Dodgy!

Part 6

MORE BLOODY GLASS!

More cut-to-size sheets of glass!

AGM vs LITHIUM Battery?

Sure, AGM stands for “absorbed glass-mat”, however even AGM batteries are not meant to have actual glass inside of them. Therefore, this is not just a case of a wrongfully labelled battery on an automated production line somewhere. It was created like this to intentionally deceive, making this a counterfeit lithium battery.

Real Glass Does NOT Belong in Real Batteries!

Part 7

AND MORE GLASS!

HOW MUCH GLASS WAS IN THERE?

In previous videos, we’d already removed 4kg of glass out of this battery, but knew there was more!

Cutting open the battery casing revealed the 6 cells giving us the 12 Volts, the rest, however, was packed with 11.1kg of glass. Each sheet, intentionally and perfectly cut to fit and slotted in to make up the gaps.

The final weight of the battery was 9.7kg!

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN SHOPPING FOR A LITHIUM BATTERY

Given you may be purchasing your battery online, please don’t be fooled by a cheap price. As we’ve exposed, there are numerous dodgy suppliers out there looking to separate you from your hard earned money.

Here’s some pointers on how to protect yourself when searching online for a genuine lithium battery.

Battery Weight

Check the delivery specifications as you’ll be paying for the extra weight in the shipping costs

Clear Markings

Check the battery box / case and the label for detailed specifications.

Check The Price $

Our lithium batteries range from approx. $1,500 to $5000 AUD. The price depends on the size / capacity of the battery and the quality of the brand.

Check Online Reviews

And not the ones published on their website or EBAY listing. Do a Google search and check their socials for more genuine reviews.

Recognise The Brand

Only buy reputable and recognisable brands. No name brands are not only less proven, they are more difficult to track down if there is a problem.

Check Their Refund Policy

Make sure your properly protected before dishing out your hard earned dollars.
